The goal of this step is to reduce the level of malnutrition in children up to six years from the current 38.4 percent to 25 percent by 2022. In the first phase of the loan, the campaign will be expedited in 315 districts of all states and union territories. India signed a $ 200 million letter of credit with the World Bank for a national nutrition campaign on 08 May 2018. This aq1mount will help in reducing the dwarfness in the age group of 0-6 years by reducing the 38.4 percent to 25 percent by 2022.
What is the National Nutrition Mission (Potion Abhiyan) and how will the loan help it?
The National Nutrition Mission is also called Potion Campaign. The main element of the nutrition campaign is to strengthen the World Bank-assisted Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) and implement the Better Nutrition Project in all districts of the country.
The Prime Minister launched the nutrition campaign in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan on 8 March 2018.
This campaign will be run in 315 districts of all states and union territories.
Under ICDS scheme, breastfeeding women and children up to 3 years of age are provided with quality nutrition.
Objective of National Nutrition Mission (NNM)
The National Nutrition Mission aims to reduce dwarfism, undernutrition, anemia (among young children, women and adolescent girls) and a reduction of 2 percent in young children per year.
The goal of reducing dwarfism is also 2 percent, the mission will try to bring down the tax from 38.4% (NFHS-4) to 25% by the year 2022.
More than 10 crore people will get benefit from this program.
It will cover all the states and districts in a phased manner, while 315 districts in the year 2017-18, 235 districts in the year 2018-19 and the remaining districts in the year 2019-20
Other important areas of National Nutrition Mission (NNM):
All nutritional based schemes will be included in this project and on the basis of performance, incentives will be provided to states, communities, health workers etc.
• This program will try to reduce the level of dwarfness, undernutrition, blood loss and low birth weight children through the goals.
• Work is being done to provide 1000 calories to women and 600 calories to children.
• Nutrition of food, sustainable solution through breastfeeding, dietary diversification, sugar to meet this goal
